So you can grab one, hang on to it and install it six months out.

And Quicken activation code extensions are good for two years. So, be aware of when the subscription expires, and shop around for the best deals. Two, if they price themselves out of the market they will find themselves out of business.Ī Quicken subscription can be extended any time within six months of expiration. One, Quicken will continue to try and keep things reasonable to keep their user base. No one knows what the price will be in the future. Yesterday, that subscription was $50 for 12 months. Personally, I saw this coming and bought Quicken Deluxe "2018" subscription quite a while ago from Amazon for $54 for 27 months. The other change is the pricing structure. No more having to support three different year versions along two different OS platforms.

And most importantly, as of today, Quicken is only supporting Quicken Windows and Quicken Mac and their subsets (Starter, Deluxe, Premier and Home/Business). It also allows for gradual improvements and bug fixes throughout your subscription time frame. This allows Quicken to NOT have to have a deadline for a NEW AND IMPROVED Quicken with new features that HAD to be released by that September date. So, there's now a rolling termination date depending on the user install, instead of April 30.

The only thing that has changed is that the termination of online services now ends 12, 14, 24 or 27 months from activation of the product (or download of the product if purchased directly from Quicken), depending on the subscription offered and what you purchased. There is no requirement that any part of Quicken has to be in the Cloud or on Quicken's servers or has to be web based, if you don't want it to. Quicken 2017, as planned and stated, expired April 30, 2020. Thus, Quicken 2015 expired April 30, 2018. Why? Because your ability to download transactions and security prices and all other online services ended about 3+ years from the year version you purchased. They just never called it a subscription.but it was. Quicken has ALWAYS been subscription based.

Q20 needs a lot of work as it's slow, buggy, and doesn't work well on 4k screens but the way it presents the data is second to none. I came from there to Quicken 20 and while I loathe the subscription model I love the much better financial tools of Quicken. It's been on the roadmap for 3 years now so I don't think it will be there. That's how I do my paycheck - Income of all the salary and expenses of the various deductions. It looks good and I really liked it but it still doesn't support transactions of both an Income and Expense. MoneyWiz is available as both a subscription and a one time fee.

Does download from some banks but they do often break. But it seems to not be under active development (latest version is a year old). So.you're back to square one for a product that probably won't do as good a job as Quicken.

But guess what? You'll be paying an annual subscription for those add ons. Now, I anticipate a lot of very talented Excel users to create add on templates for Money for Excel. For the rest of us, it's $90 for an annual subscription to Microsoft 365.way more than I pay for Quicken Deluxe subscription for 27 months.

So, if you're already a subscriber, that's a plus and saves a lot of money. Regular desktop Excel users won't have access to it. And you'll need to be a Microsoft 365 subscriber to download the template. How reliable will the downloads be?Īlso, its an Excel based spreadsheet. Basically a screen scraper of financial transaction data.īut how many financial institutions will it support? No one knows yet. It will be available soon, but will be a rudimentary product. I recommended Quicken to hundreds of people in the 90s and 00's, but after these shenanigans, I won't any longer. I will not pay Quicken for a "subscription model" and possibly lose access to my data down the road. With the latest blackmail from Quicken (upgrade to a subscription model or lose access to your auto-reconcile bank data), I have said "no more".ĭoes anyone have any recommendations on products (windows or linux) to replace Quicken 2017 that has the same functionality? Or - possibility an OpenSource programme that gathers the QIF files from my multiple banks info one QIF for file import into Quicken 2017? 5 being the best, I was at a "4" with Quicken 2017, but absolutely refuse to move to a "subscription model" where Quicken holds the keys to my finances. I've suffered through the upgrades (forced and otherwise) and the massive bugs that they would blame on the user. I have used Quicken since the beginning when it was a DOS-based programme when the world didn't even have "internet access".
